The Tennessee Titans opened minicamp on Tuesday, but cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was not on the field.
The veteran defensive back is still recovering from a calf/knee injury that forced him to miss most of his first season in Nashville. While head coach Brian Callahan is optimistic Sneed will be available when the season starts, he does want to see a lot more from him moving forward.
“Waiting for L'Jarius Sneed to show us he's the player he's been,” Callahan said, “He has a great track record in the league, but we want to see it here as well.”
The Titans gave up a lot of draft capital to acquire Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2024 NFL draft, and followed that with a four-year, $76.4 million contract in the middle of their insane 2024 spending spree. Needless to say, Sneed has not made the impact the team had hoped for when they made the trade.
At the time the deal was struck, Sneed had shown the skills needed to be successful in the NFL. During his four-years with the Chiefs, he recorded 10 career interceptions and 40 passes defensed, and was a highly regarded defensive back. Unfortunately, he made almost no impact during his first season in Nashville, recording zero interceptions and zero passes defensed, in the five games he played before finishing the season on injured reserve.
At this point, Sneed has missed the entire offseason program and his impact for the Titans is more aligned with some of the other high-priced additions made by former general manager Ran Carthon, who are no longer in Nashville. Linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie were also signed prior to the 2024 season and were jettisoned earlier in the offseason after disappointing seasons.
With his comments, it is clear that the Titans want to see more production out of Sneed moving forward, or he could be joining his former teammates playing elsewhere in the future.

How much can the Titans reasonably rely on CB L’Jarius Sneed this year?
