Jaxon Hayes could be available.

I like him as a backup center more than a starter, but I remember him playing well against the Suns in the playoffs.

If this hasn't already been posted, Gambo reports front office changes with the Suns is coming soon, perhaps within the next 48 hours.

Afterward, the coaching search begins.

Man… 98.7 is reporting our new GM might be… a hire from within, from a guy with no NBA resume outside his brief tenure with the Suns who who an assistant coach while Idioshbia was a player at MSU and was pretty much a failure as a head coach for mid-majors in college.

If that’s true, it’s just more fuel for the fire that Ishbia not only has no clue what he’s doing, but is proving he has no desire to really change either.

this would mean jj and ish would still run the show - this would mean they found a fall guy and not a gm - clear as day

IMO, someone in the Suns front office is already making player personnel decisions in regard to the draft.

Maybe there will be multiple moves?

I don't know who assembled the G-League team but he might not be a bad idea if we're promoting from within. They weren't world beaters but they finished 5th after an expansion draft. They definitely identified some talent.

John Little is the head coach of the Valley Suns and Brendan Sabean is listed as "Team Manager" from what I can find. He's listed before and more prominently than assistant coaches so maybe that's the G-League GM role?

Whomever is responsible for the last two drafts, I'd like to see in charge. Especially where we drafted from. Camara, Dunn, Oso. Couldn't get much better from those draft slots.

Okay so we'll probably get a new GM. Check.
Before searching for a new coach. Check.
When the new GM gets in, he/she needs time to make changes, so I will try to be patient and optimistic.

Brian Gregory will be the Suns new general manager.

James Jones will become a senior adviser to the Suns.

I thought someone within the Suns organization was already making player personnel decisions. This makes sense.

And I thought James Jones would stay on in some capacity.

Here is a link to the above breaking story.

By Shams Charania May 1, 2025, 03:22 PM ET:

After two decades as an NCAA head coach, Gregory worked closely with Suns officials in the front office over the last two years, was a key part of the selections of 2024 draft picks Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro, and now assumes a more prominent, day-to-day position.

JJ is likely paid a year or two to do nothing. Senior advisor? Whatever. Adios!

This Brian Gregory is interesting. He was in the organization in player programming and also was an assistant for Ishbia back in Michigan under Izzo. He had some coaching success after leaving Michigan State while at Dayton but the rest is mediocre, granted they weren't big schools.

Main thing is Shams saying he was a key voice for Dunn and Oso. Dunn was a great pick while Oso was a respectable second rounder.

Just pathetic, and completely expected with Ish. Instead of getting a credible and proven GM, he picks his old coach at Michigan State who hasn't done anything.

This is a critical point for personnel decisions, and to move a complete neophyte into that position is organizational failure.

Not if he was instrumental in drafting Dunn, Ighodaro and perhaps Camara.

Also, I liked Collin Gillespie and Ty Ty Washington who were on two-way contracts.

And who did you want? Don't say Bob Myers because that wasn't happening. We tried big names before as coaches and failed. GM is different but if someone has an eye for talent then that's key. As reported, Gregory was a key in selecting Dunn and Oso. There's other experienced guys in the front office like Bartlestein and JJ as a consultant. I can see not being excited at this move but the negativity seems premature.

Coaching and GM isn't the same either. Kerr failed here as a GM and became a top coach in GS. There's other cases of guys like Phil Jackson who failed spectacularly in New York as GM.
