Man… I would really love for this team to just be scrappy/competitive if for no other reason than my Dad could really use something somewhat entertaining to get behind right now. Even just hearing in his voice mild excitement at how scrappy he thought we looked tonight was a breath of fresh air. Been a really rough road for him after losing Mom last November and as a die-hard everything Phoenix sports fans, every team that’s done next to nothing to lighten his load in the almost year since.

I'm hoping we get to see a lineup of Goodwin, Dunn, Brooks, O'Neale, Khaman/Williams. They won't score but it'll be fun to watch them hound everything on defense.

This team has fight. Hopefully they can stay scrappy.
Provide your dad (and all of us) some quality distraction for the next 6 months.

I have never seen a Suns player more widely despised than DeAndre Ayton. ...Of course it's appropriate. He is #3 on my "worst Phoenix Suns" list.

For us, he was a very good player for the most part.

But his total lack of self awareness, combined with his infantile hubris... not a good look.

With a very slight alteration to his mindset, he could be a great player, but he is very content to be nothing of consequence. His main goal seems to be to go unnoticed.

Someone remarked earlier in this thread, that he has always been a good free throw shooter... overall, The stats say he is solid for a big. At the same time, I wish I could put together a stat for Ayton's FT shooting in games that were within a possession and under 2 minutes remaining... because in my mind he missed almost every shot.

He's gutless, he haaaaaaaaaaaates the spotlight. His size and nature skill should make him one of the best bigs in basketball but he just doesn't care. He likes the money, he doesn't want any part of the pressure.

That is rough.

My grandfather was on his way out in the late teens, he was a season ticket holder in the madhouse days. And that fall off from the early 2010s was jarring. He was always amiable, and his mind was there, almost, until the end. But it really sucked that one of our favorite conversation points (Suns basketball) grew so sad that he basically abandoned it.

I watched the Mercury game, and they were playing in Las Vegas. The game was there for the taking. They really made Las Vegas work for it.

If only this were the Suns defense all season. The Lakers shot 31.1% from the field and 17.1% from three.

For anyone who doesn't want to know, my two players above Ayton are Vince Carter Vince Crater, and the most destructive player in Suns history--Danny Ainge.
Ainge was hilarious! I took my wife and two boys to a game that Ainge was coaching for the Suns. Pretty soon into the game, I was telling my family, have we got a foul call in this game yet? The refs kept blowing the whistle, but almost exclusively on the Suns. This kept going all game. Ainge was getting very vocal on the sidelines. Fans were even booing. Finally during a time out Ainge asked the referee for the ball. He had two arms out towards the ref and begged him for the ball two or three times. Finally, the ref stepped towards Ainge and handed him the ball. Ainge kicked that ball into the second deck. The ref immediately hung his head, in a I should have known better look, and they T'd up Ainge and sent him packing. A lot of fans cheered Ainge as he left the court. Almost everyone in my section just burst out laughing.
