Suns Get Devin Booker News After Major Head Coaching Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After weeks of interviewing multiple candidates for their head coaching vacancy, the Phoenix Suns finally made their decision on Wednesday on who will be the franchise’s next head coach.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Ott as their new head coach.
Ott has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2012, working on coaching staffs for the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Cavaliers.
Of course, last season was Ott’s first in Cleveland after Coach of the Year Kenny Atkinson added to his staff and he played a large role in helping Cleveland finish with the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Now Ott will go from a contending team to one that is due for a rebuild after the Suns finished last season 11th in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Phoenix is expected to move on from Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal this offseason to build around Devin Booker and that was shown in Phoenix’s decision regarding their new head coach.
According to Charania, Booker was involved in Phoenix’s coaching search and he also agreed that Ott was the franchise’s top choice to fill the vacant position left after they fired Mike Budenholzer to begin the offseason.
With Booker being the only Suns’ star in on their coaching decision, it is clear that he is set to be a key part of their future as they try to rebuild their roster this summer by moving both Durant and Beal.
Because of this, Booker now resumes his role as the franchise’s star, who helped lead them to an NBA Finals appearance in 2021 before they decided to build their big three, which turned out to be the wrong decision.

With Ott now manning the sidelines and Booker leading the way, Phoenix’s attention now turns to returning their roster to contender status this summer.
