ESPN Josh Bartelstein

We never really looked at this in depth, and this is a key position in the Suns front office!

"Bartelstein, 33, has ascended quickly in his executive career, spending seven years working his way to executive VP of business and basketball operations under Palace Sports and Entertainment vice chairman Arn Tellem. Bartelstein worked on number of major projects, including the franchise's relocation to a new downtown arena. He moved over to basketball operations as an assistant general manager in 2022, working with GM Troy Weaver. That transition gave Bartelstein a fuller résumé to move into a CEO role.

After buying a majority share of the Suns at a $4 billion valuation earlier this year, Ishbia brings on Bartelstein to replace former Suns CEO Jason Rowley, whom some employees placed at the center of allegations of verbal abuse, retaliation and intimidation in the workplace under Sarver."

Suns president of basketball operations and general manager James Jones will remain with the organization and will report directly to Ishbia, per Wojnarowski.

Bartelstein is expected to oversee the franchise's business and basketball divisions, building off his experience working for Palace Sports and Entertainment and Pistons chairman Arn Teller.

Josh Bartelstein is only 33. I was hoping for a new GM but maybe that will come later.

What do you think? I am thinking marketing oriented? Maybe he was in charge of TV deal, or looking into it?

I guess there goes the #5 pick for Ayton. It belonged to the Pistons.

Prior to the first exhibition game on November 1, 2012, Bartelstein was named team captain of the 2012–13 Michigan Wolverines.[31] Although Bartelstein was the official captain, he only played 10 minutes all season,[32] and the team was led on the court by Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr.[33] Despite his modest role in the games, he is noted for his "leadership, motivational abilities and commitment to success" according to Bleacher Report author Lee Schechter (especially as evidenced by his output in "The Bartelstein Blog")

It could well be. Ishbia may see a bright young mind and he wants to clean up the workplace environment issues.

Six players from the 2012–13 Wolverines team that Bartelstein captained were future NBA draftees: Trey Burke (2013, 9th),[46][47] Tim Hardaway Jr. (2013, 24th),[48] Nik Stauskas (2014, 8th),[49] Mitch McGary (2014, 21st),[50][51] Glenn Robinson III (2014, 40th),[52][53] and Caris LeVert (2016, 20th).[54][55] Bartelstein's father became the agent for three of those players: his former roommate, Hardaway,[56][57] Stauskas,[58][59] and McGary[60] as well as future Wolverine and NBA player Derrick Walton.[61]

Then he was hired as CEO of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and the operating entity for Footprint Center on April 10, 2023. Among his notable roles for the Pistons was his oversight of the design and construction of the Henry Ford-Detroit Pistons Performance Center. His role as CEO gives him authority over business operations while the team tasked its basketball operations to its President of Basketball Operations and General Manager.

Looking at the dates on this story, this was announced by Adrian Wojnarowski, Senior NBA Insider on Mar 4, 2023.

Flex nonsense aside we’re about to find out how low the league is on DA. I think the #10 is in play but we’d have to take back scrubs like Davis Bertans and Dwight Powell.

Well, this appears to be where the Suns may be, although I don't want to deal within the conference.

Any pick beyond #3 has next to no value to me. Maybe we can get a #5 or something and then package it with CP3 to get something else. The #5 or #10 picks don't excite me at all.

Agree 100%. Beyond wembayama, scoot, and Miller the top picks don’t excite me.
