Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was miked up at the end of his team's Week 2 win in September 2024 against the Cincinnati Bengals as he approached Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on the field.
Spagnuolo's praise of Burrow was captured during an episode of the new season of Netflix's "Quarterback" documentary, featuring Burrow, Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins. The new season also features Burrow telling head coach Zac Taylor that the Bengals' effort in a win was "f------ embarrassing." Burrow also explains that the burglary of his home in December 2024 forced him to cancel the purchase of a Batmobile and consider moving, and he talks about his fascination with fossils and a recent visit to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
"Hey, other than that guy (Patrick Mahomes), you are the best in the business," Spagnuolo says to Burrow. "I'm not saying that because you're standing here. You're the -"
"Thank you," Burrow replies. "I appreciate you. Good luck."
During the 2021 season, Spagnuolo compared Burrow to Tom Brady ahead of a Week 17 matchup between the Bengals and Chiefs.
"This may sound crazy, but I see a young Tom Brady," Spagnuolo said, per The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway. "This guy does everything. He does not look like a second-year quarterback that missed a lot of his first year, totally impressed with him."
Spagnuolo also compared Burrow to Brady in 2023.
