2025 will mark Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin's 19th season. Tomlin is the longest tenured head coach in all of major North American sports. If the 18 previous seasons, Tomlin's Steelers have never had a losing season. This could all come to an end in 2025 as the team seems to be in a full rebuild on offense.
The Steelers offense has been the weak link on the team since the retirement of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. 2025 is lining up to be the worst quarterback depth chart since 2019 when Roethlisberger was lost to an injury after only one game. Pittsburgh is currently in full rebuild mode on offense with no viable starting quarterback on the roster (all due respect to Mason Rudolph) and after trading away George Pickens, only one starting-caliber with receiver with DK Metcalf.
Every season, it feels like it might be the year that Tomlin's streak is broken but it's never felt more real than this. The AFC is getting better and better and Pittsburgh has taken many steps backward by comparison. Even within the AFC North, the Steelers have at best the No. 3 roster and they are closer to the Cleveland Browns than either the Baltimore Ravens or Cincinnati Bengals.
If the Steelers don't go .500 or better in 2025, Tomlin's legacy goes with the streak. It's literally the last thing his supporters have to hang their hat on. Without the streak, what motivation does Pittsburgh have to keep letting him try?
