Five-star recruits have flown off the board over the last few months, with nearly every single one making their college commitment ahead of the 2025 high school football season.
While some teams like Alabama and Oregon have racked up five-star prospects, several programs have been able to add their name to the list of teams with at least one in the 2026 class.
South Carolina can now add itself to that list after Darius Gray, a five-star interior offensive lineman from St. Christopher's School (Richmond, Va.), announced his commitment to the Gamecocks Friday afternoon.
Gray chose South Carolina over Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, and Tennessee.

247Sports ranks the 6-3, 285-pounder as the No. 16 player in the class, the No. 1 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 1 player out of Virginia.
A two-way standout for the Saints, Gray primarily starts at left tackle on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, he recorded 50 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries last season.
When it comes to the best of the best classes in the 2026 cycle, South Carolina isn't one of those teams that is mentioned frequently.
Prior to Gray's commitment, the Gamecocks' class consisted of just 14 pledges. However, those 14 were more than good enough to have them ranked just outside of the top-20 according to 247Sports.
Nine of those 14 commitments are ranked as four-star prospects according to the site.
Top-50 quarterback prospect Landon Duckworth and cornerback J'Zavien Currence headlines the class. Those two, along with defensive lineman Aiden Harris, rank as top-100 recruits in the cycle.
Gray is also the Gamecocks' third offensive line pledge, joining four-star tackle Zyon Guiles and three-star prospect Anthony Baxter.
