Sorry, I don’t get it. I admittedly am not a College expert but from what I’ve seen, the top 2 are not elite. Arch is not special, Dante Moore is not special…. what am I missing?

This is what Google search said:

The 2027 NFL Draft class is widely regarded by NFL scouts and draft analysts as one of the most promising quarterback classes in recent history, standing out for several reasons:

1. Exceptional Depth and Top-End Talent

Unlike draft classes with only one or two clear blue-chip prospects, the 2027 class boasts as many as 5 to 8 quarterbacks evaluated with potential first-round grades. Scouting services and analysts note that up to five quarterbacks sit within high top-tier ranks overall—a density not seen in several draft cycles.

2. High-Profile Star Prospects

The headline names bringing elite pedigree and production include:
  • Arch Manning (Texas): High-ceiling athlete with elite arm strength, pocket maneuvering, and notable football lineage.
  • Dante Moore (Oregon): A highly polished pocket passer known for smooth mechanics, anticipation, and quick decision-making.
  • Julian Sayin (Ohio State): An accurate, quick-processing passer with high completion rates and advanced field vision.
  • CJ Carr (Notre Dame): High-upside thrower with efficient mechanics and big-play passing ability.
  • Drew Mestemaker / Trinidad Chambliss / LaNorris Sellers: Promising dual-threat and high-production passers offering diverse schemes and skill sets.

3. Early On-Field Production & Pedigree

Many of these prospects entered college as consensus 5-star recruit recruits and gained meaningful experience or put up high-efficiency numbers early in their college careers. Evaluators value quarterbacks who possess both elite physical traits (velocity, mobility) and proven processing ability in top-tier collegiate systems.

4. Contrast with Neighboring Draft Classes

The class receives additional praise because it follows weaker or thinner quarterback cycles in preceding years, creating strong demand among quarterback-needy NFL franchises looking to select a franchise signal-caller.

i think qb draft evaluation has become so group think that i'd do something dramatic - like enforcing a seclusion on a portion of my scouting department

no media - no podcasts - no espn - no message boards - no twitter - no nuthin - just go to the games and watch film - detatch them from all the professional and fan opinions

rocknroll got too awesome in the 70s but everybody started sounding like eachother - some of the greats took the same dramatic steps i put before you now - vanishing and banishing themselves from all non-essential influences

then i'd see if my regular scouts opnions match with those of my isolated scouts - i bet they wouldn't

I'll bite. I kind of agree with SyracuseCards, but not 100%. Arch is a possible top 3 but need to see more of his development. Dante Moore - no way. Just not seeing a lot out of him with the accuracy (one of his guys had to come back to the ball against BSU today), arm strength and he's not elusive at all. I know it's early, but just not a Dante Moore fan. Really hoping Beck gets a real shot and wows us and we can go best player available and instead of sucked into the vortex of QB way too early.

happens every year around this time.. but dont misunderstand...
They are not claiming these guys are world beaters...at this point.

all the prognostication is based on each of these guys having a strong year and building on what they did last year...with "Building" being the key word.

But, take Dante Moore for example,...a name I have seen tied to us in several mocks for next years draft.
Moore could have come out this past year...and with Mendoza being the only real threat he was expected to be a top 5 pick... but Moore chose to go back to college...and that choice has a lot of weight in regards to next years draft.. some folks will say the money doesnt matter because of NIL... but Moore only collected $5mil in NIL money for this year...had he been a top 5 pick he would have collected twice that...so it wasnt about money... Moore wasnt quite ready...and getting another dozen starts in college will go a long way towards helping him be a successful pro when the time comes...if one is looking deeper at the prospect...making that decision is a pretty strong sign of maturity on Moores part... now he just needs to deliver and show a strong year.

so we got nearly ten guys who "could" be a blue chip "Prospect"...see that?? "Prospect"<<<No guarantees there, just possibilities...
so we got these guys right now..the hype starts up, the media gets motivated to question these guys..their teammates get on them....the pressure builds....
so can the guy continue to grow,...keep getting better,...focus on winning games...while the pressure on him to be great gets greater with every single win...with every 300 yard game,...with every Touchdown pass...

or does the guy fold?? Does he buckle under the pressure...throw a ton of interceptions...
or worse maybe,...does he show he cant handle success...start getting into ego fights with teammates,..getting DUI's and drunk in publics..maybe beating up a girlfriend on a saturday night..

out of these guys we got...2 or 3 of them will certainly prove out to be up to the task...a couple of them will fall by the wayside before the holidays...
it would be an impressive QB class indeed if we go into the draft with 8 or 10 QB's all holding first round grades. But thats just not likely to happen...its a long and arduous weeding out process that starts with pre season hype.

Good points. I will definitely be watching a lot more CFB this year than usual. Obviously, I’m hoping SU QB Steve Angelli has a great year. He led the nation in passing last year before he got hurt. Will be interesting to see how the other quarterbacks do this year as well.

Nothing against Carson Beck, but I'd like a spare.

If the Cardinals end up with two starting caliber quarterbacks, one can always trade one for good value.
Completely understandable. Beck is an interesting but completely unproven prospect on the NFL level.

Dante Moore would have been a top 10 pick last year. Arch Manning has the pedigree and is probably Eli Manning. Levitt is going to pile on stats at LSU and was probably a 2 last year.

Dante Moore would have been another Zach Wilson last year, he made the right decision going back to school

Arch in game 1 looks better than last year, but he still has a LOT of growing to do before he looks like an NFL QB. If Arch was on an NFL team right now I wouldn't rank him as one of the best 40 QBs.

There is no guarantee Arch declares for the 2027 draft either. There are rumors he wants to stay the full 5 years no matter what. This matches what his uncles have advised him to do.

There's a tonne of potential there. It's unusual to have such a range of different types of talent and the odds of multiple taking a big leap forward this year are pretty big.

Many QBs that get drafted high often only have one year of great production.

Guys like Carr, Sayin, Mensah, Moore etc only got their first starts last year. SO you would expect then to take a leap.

Pretty much seems like it's said every year. 2026 was supposed to be a transcendental QB class. It didn't materialize. They said it about 2027 a lot last year. We'll see.

The main difference between this years class and last is, as the season starts, a lot more depth to the QB class. Before he decided to return to Ole Miss people were getting really excited about Chambliss. And, now, Leavitt looks like he might jump up into the mix. And there several others not even mentioned yet with the potential to become high draft picks this year or next

Agreed. What I find interesting is that many if not all teams consider the 2027 draft loaded with talent. Several teams traded top notch talent for 2027 picks but all the other trades were for 2028 picks.

It has a lot of guys with last names staring with M.
I would not be surprised at all if Maieva is the best pro of all of them.
Moore I simply wouldn’t draft at all. Not the way he’s valued at least.
Manning would be a fun story to follow I guess.
Meh.

IF, notice big IF, the Cards don't need QB, it would be a good year to have the number one pick. You could literally charge a team a King's ransom to get Arch Manning. :)

Just a lot of "top dudes" likely coming out this year.

Chambliss, Mensah, Leavitt, and Moore staying in school, with Manning, Sayin, and a few others becoming draft eligible.

This past draft there was really only Mendoza who was a consensus first rounder.

Watched the first half of the Longhorns game yesterday, Manning had some nice throws but he also had some glalring misses on short passes which is apparently his area of improvement for this year. The little I saw of him and seeing all of Becks play with the Cardinals Beck is equally as good if not a better QB. My hope for this year is Beck proves out and we can draft an Oline of Dline stud followed by a good corner (draft is apparently overweight in good safeties and corners) or LB.
I dont care about the win loss ratio just want to see the young guys develop.

They only fit the profile of the franchise qb. So much goes into actually working out, having success. The reason you want Arch Manning is he checks all the boxes of what you want to develop a pro quarterback. I personally was impressed by Beck and his performance, experience for pro football.

what they are dealing with now....much of the "power" in a draft is based on the QB position... but star players in general...

there used to be a set pipeline of guys coming into college, redshirting a year, playing two years...then declaring for the drraft... the only outliers were guys that were too good to redshirt and would play three years.
But with NIL...unless a guy feels he is absolutely guaranteed a top 10 slot...he can make more money staying in college...and improving his draft position with a good year.

there are lots of factors...some guys dont want to risk injury by staying in college...rather risk being a second round pick...but some guys dont.

it just generally makes it difficult a year or two in advance to properly predict when a guy will declare...because dudes aint always jumping as soon as they are eligible anymore.
