The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp return home for Labor Day weekend against the Rochester Red Wings. Here's what you need to know about the next Triple-A baseball series.
Who: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp vs. Rochester Red Wings.
When: Tuesday, Aug. 26, through Sunday, Aug. 31.
Where: VyStar Ballpark.
Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp finished with a six-game split on the road against Worcester. That split leaves Jacksonville 7 1/2 games behind first-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the second-half standings, but the Jumbo Shrimp have already clinched postseason baseball by winning the first half.
Highlight: On Aug. 22, Jacksonville trailed 3-2 before scoring four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Matthew Etzel. The Jumbo Shrimp went on to win 9-3.
Crustacean sensation: Cody Morrissette has only played a week with the Jumbo Shrimp after his promotion from the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos, but he looks like a player who can handle Triple-A. In his first five games, the 25-year-old infielder has batted .429 with three doubles.
On deck: Rochester, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, is out of the postseason race and 15 games behind the top of the International League East. The Red Wings include only one of the Nationals' top 15 prospects, outfielder Christian Franklin, acquired in the July 31 deal that sent Michael Soroka to the Chicago Cubs.
Ballpark fun: Honey Drippers Weekend returns to the First Coast, complete with commemorative Jacksonville Honey Drippers jerseys on Aug. 30 and 31. That finishes a week of ballpark activities beginning with '80s Night on Aug. 26.
Probable pitchers Tuesday: To be announced.
