The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp return to the road for one of their longest road trips, meeting the Rochester Red Wings for six games. Here's what you need to know about the next Triple-A baseball series.
Who: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Rochester Red Wings.
When: Tuesday, June 10, through Sunday, June 15.
Where: Innovative Field, Rochester, N.Y.
Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp finished the weekend with a six-game split at home against the Durham Bulls, their primary rivals for second place in the International League East. That leaves Jacksonville six games behind first-place Lehigh Valley as the season approaches the halfway mark.
Highlight: Mark down Troy Johnston's home run on June 7 as one of Jacksonville's biggest plays of the year so far. The Jumbo Shrimp trailed Durham 2-0 in the eighth inning when Johnston stepped to the plate for a three-run blast that gave the home crowd a 3-2 victory.
Crustacean sensation: The bats have cooled off for the Jumbo Shrimp, but pitching continues to perform. Among the hot arms right now is John Rooney, who has bounced back from a rocky start to May with six consecutive scoreless appearances, allowing only three hits combined in that span while dropping his season ERA to 3.00.
On deck: Triple-A affiliates of the Washington Nationals, the Red Wings are bringing up the rear in the International League at 22-39 and just got swept by Worcester. Their prized prospect is third baseman Brady House, ranked No. 3 by MLB.com in the Washington system and entering the series with a .299 average, 12 home runs, 36 RBI and an .873 OPS. There's also a familiar name on the roster in Marquis Grissom Jr., son of the former Jacksonville Expos outfielder.
Probable pitchers Tuesday: To be announced.
