Where: VyStar Ballpark.
Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp earned a series victory on the road against the Gwinnett Stripers, winning the first four games before dropping the last two. That series has left Jacksonville in second place in the International League East, but with a seven-game gap behind first-place Lehigh Valley.
Highlight: Jacksonville won the first four games in the series, with a big assist from Maximo Acosta on May 29. The shortstop's RBI single brought home Albert Almora Jr. with the go-ahead run in a three-run eighth inning for a come-from-behind 3-1 victory.
Crustacean sensation: Catch him while you can. Now back from Tommy John surgery in April 2024, Eury Perez is expected to make his final minor league rehab start for the Jumbo Shrimp on June 3 before returning to the Miami Marlins, and the 22-year-old from the Dominican Republic is coming off an ace performance (one hit in five innings) on May 28. With the Marlins in 2023, the youngest player in the majors at the time, he struck out 108 batters in 91 1/3 innings with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Baseball America ranked him as the No. 7 prospect in the sport at the time of his promotion.
On deck: The Bulls, Triple-A affiliates of the Tampa Bay Rays, are Jacksonville's primary opponents for second place in the International League East. They're 32-25, only two games behind the Jumbo Shrimp and nine behind Lehigh Valley. Top-ranked Rays prospect Carson Williams is coming to town with Durham, bringing an excellent glove as well as power (nine doubles, seven homers in 52 games) but relatively sparse contact (.185 batting average, 79 K).
Ballpark fun: You don't need to be in Pittsburgh for this one: Three months before the semi-official International Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 19), the Jumbo Shrimp are celebrating Ahoy Matey Night on June 6, described as a celebration of all things pirates. There's also canine activity at the ballpark with Dog Day on June 3, and a Jacksonville Red Caps shirt giveaway for the first 2,000 fans on June 7.
Probable pitchers Tuesday: Jacksonville's Eury Perez (1-0, 2.16) vs. a Durham pitcher to be announced.
