For the first time in two weeks, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp return to hometown competition against the Columbus Clippers. Here's what you need to know about the next Triple-A baseball series.

Who: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp vs. Columbus Clippers.

When: Tuesday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 3.

  • TU: 7:05 p.m.
  • W: 7:05 p.m.
  • TH: 7:05 p.m.
  • F: 7:05 p.m.
  • SA: 6:35 p.m.
  • SU: 5:05 p.m.

Where: VyStar Ballpark.

Series recap: The Jumbo Shrimp came away with a six-game split in their road series against the Durham Bulls. With Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Syracuse setting the pace, Jacksonville is well behind the International League second-half leaders, but the club has already clinched a postseason spot by winning the first half.

Highlight: Second baseman Jacob Berry was the star of the show on July 24, connecting with a tie-breaking two-run home run in the 10th inning to power Jacksonville to a 4-2 victory over Durham.

Crustacean sensation: At 36, Rob Brantly has been around baseball a while. The veteran catcher, who has played parts of 10 MLB seasons and lined up against Philadelphia's keystone combination of Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley in his debut, is having a solid run at the plate for the Jumbo Shrimp. He batted .333 (6 for 18) with two doubles and a home run during the Durham series.

On deck: It's Bieber fever time in Jacksonville. Shane Bieber, 2020 Cy Young Award winner, is on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Clippers and is expected to get a start here after his planned July 27 game was rained out. Columbus, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, has struggled in the second half and ranks above only Omaha in the International League West. The Clippers' lineup includes two of Cleveland's top five prospects in outfielder Chase DeLauter and outfielder/first baseman C.J. Kayfus. DeLauter has a .278/.383/.476 slash line with good plate discipline (22 walks in 34 games) and Kayfus is now .285/.367/.537 with 13 homers.

Ballpark fun: Will they appear Wednesday, Friday or both? That's the question awaiting the category of one-hit wonders in polka. The reason: Polka Night is July 30, complete with polka music at the park. Then, Aug. 2 is One-Hit Wonder Night for Jumbo Shrimp fans. In between is Clippers on the Concourse night with live haircuts at the park on Aug. 1, which also happens to be Thirsty Thursday. Buckle up.

Probable pitchers Tuesday: To be announced.
