The Brooklyn Nets head into the 2025 NBA offseason with the most cap space in the league that allows them to pursue whoever they want in free-agency. When it comes to free-agency, Brooklyn has plenty of players that they have to made decisions, including Cam Thomas and whether the team should pay whatever it takes to bring him back to Brooklyn.

Thomas, 23, will be entering restricted free-agency for the first time in his career and he will be doing so after having the best season that he's had since entering the league as the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Thomas averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land.

While Thomas is coming off the best season of his career as he appeared to put together his impressive shot-making with his evolving passing game and looked like a player that could potentially be an offensive hub on the floor. However, Thomas only played 25 games as he continued to deal with left hamstring strains that took him off the hardwood for weeks at a time and never allowed him to establish any type of rhythm.

Be that as it may, Thomas is still regarded as one of the better players in free-agency this summer as HoopsHype ranks him as the 12th-best free-agent, ahead of players like Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. and Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez. At that point, the issue isn't whether Thomas is a good NBA player. The question is how much will it cost to keep Thomas from being taken by another team and that is the tricky part.

There have been a few reports over what Thomas' next contract could look like and it seems that the consensus lands somewhere between $15 million and $25 million annually. Thomas is due for a raise after what he has done in his four seasons in the league, but Brooklyn is the only team that can offer him a contract within that range so whether Thomas stays with the Nets or not may come down to imperfect timing.
