    Beautiful.

We saw a giant male (bull) elk and two females (cows) driving through Ruidoso, NM recently.

Such a crazy video. Guy is so lucky he didn't get mauled or killed. Have watched it a couple of times since it went viral. The Provo area is so beautiful, too.

I don't have any real life experience with a mountain lion but I suspect if the guy turned and ran he would have been attacked. IMO, it was a smart move to face the lion while retreating. When babies are around it's very dangerous,

On a side note I saw a mountain lion at the Arizona Game and Fish Department that had been killed by a car. The lion was big and beautiful. I was amazed at the size. If someone had told me that was an African lioness I would have believed them. It had probably been feeding off deer and elk.

Correct - NEVER turn your back on a Mountain Lion (or most predators).

He screwed up in the first few seconds by approaching closer to the cubs - that is what set the Momma off.

But after that, he did it right - face the cat, retreat without running, make noise and try to make yourself bigger.

About 12 years ago I and my ex went to go birding at Aravaipa in the Buenas Aires NWR southwest of Tucson. On the welcome board there was a note that a Female Lion and her yearling cub had been spotted in the area. Right then two older ladies came up, read the sign and asked if they could bird with us. We thought sure, we can at least outrun THEM :).

We were birding and came across some agitated birds. Normally that means there is a hawk or owl nearby, so we scanned the bushes that were 10 feet off the trail. That is when we noticed the cub sleeping under the bushes. He turned his head and looked at us. We started to retreat and he went back to sleep. Of course then we were worried about Momma so we beat a hasty retreat to the cars.

So in holding out hope of finding a tom turkey I didn't get a turkey at all...I never even saw a single tom, all hens. I hear spring turkey hunting is much better so I plan to try again then. The temperature is starting to really drop, we actually had snow flurries one day (it didn't stick though).

2 full weeks of work and back on vacation again this time to Galveston. I have enough Hilton Honors points that our lodging at least will be free (more to spend on booze and food I guess).

    Lol about the old ladies!

Chris and I were hiking in Prescott around the Dells about six years ago and ran into a momma cow and her baby. She was none too pleased to see us. She didn't charge at us or anything, but she was making some noises I had never heard from a cow before. And she did not take her eyes off of us. We decided to hike down the hill and go way around her.

Don't mess with a momma and her baby.

My car passed the smog check this morning. The wait wasn’t too long. Yep...pretty fine day.

Wishing the same for you, Ronin.
