Macklin Celebrini has moved past Wayne Gretzky in the NHL record books.

And if we recall correctly, that Gretzky guy was pretty good.

The San Jose Sharks' 19-year old phenom dished out two assists on Thursday night. He's up to 18 goals and 35 assists on the season through 35 games. It's his 53 total points that have passed Gretzky.

Gretzky, in 1980-81, while still a teenager, had 51 points before Christmas.

Celebrini, also still a teenager, has 53 points before Christmas.

It's not quite the all-time record, because Sidney Crosby set that mark more recently. Celebrini still has time to get past Crosby's 55, too.

Celebrini has 10 points in his last four games, so that'll give him a chance to get past Crosby.

The Sharks play two more games before Christmas. That starts on Saturday when they take on the Seattle Kraken.

Celebrini can get it done against anyone. After 63 points in 70 games as a rookie, he already has 53 points in 35 games in year two.

There is ample evidence at this point that Celebrini is tracking to be one of the best players on the planet, if he isn't there already.

This won't be the last record mark he surpasses.
