SEC Power Rankings: New No. 1 team atop conference entering NCAA Tournament

This past week in Hoover, Alabama, one of college baseball's premier annual events, the SEC Tournament, officially took place.

A single-elimination tournament that featured many of college baseball's top teams as participants, the action also delivered on the hype it garnered going in as well, resulting in a conference champion being crowned Sunday.

Throughout the week, there were certainly many notable results along the way such as upsets, some of which had NCAA Tournament implications.

So, in what is one of the final updates of the season, here is a look at where every team sits in the latest SEC power rankings as we enter the NCAA Tournament, which is current as of Monday, May 26.

16. Missouri Tigers​

Despite making things interesting late, Missouri fell in the first round of the SEC Tournament to Alabama, 4-1. Now sitting at 16-39 overall (3-27 in SEC), Missouri has lost four-straight, and will miss the NCAA Tournament.

15. South Carolina Gamecocks​

South Carolina's time in Hoover lasted only one game, as the Gamecocks fell to Florida in the first round, 11-3. The Gamecocks will likely miss the NCAA Tournament sitting at 28-29 overall, as well as 6-24 in SEC play.

14. Kentucky Wildcats​

A team potentially playing for a trip to the NCAA Tournament, Kentucky's time in Hoover lasted only a game as the Wildcats fell to Oklahoma in the first round, 5-1. The Wildcats record now sits at 29-24 overall (13-17 in SEC).

13. Mississippi State Bulldogs​

Mississippi State had a short stay in Hoover, falling in the first round to Texas A&M by a final score of 9-0. As the Bulldogs enter the NCAA Tournament, Mississippi State owns a 34-21 overall record (15-15 in SEC).

12. Texas A&M Aggies

Playing to make the NCAA Tournament, Texas A&M picked up two upset victories in the first-and-second rounds by defeating Mississippi State and Auburn, 9-0 and 3-2, respectively, prior to falling against LSU in the quarterfinals, 4-3. Now sitting at 30-26 overall (11-19 in SEC), the Aggies will likely miss the NCAA Tournament.

11. Alabama Crimson Tide​

Playing for a chance to host a regional, Alabama opened the SEC Tournament with a 4-1 victory over Missouri, but saw their time in Hoover come to an end with a 15-10 defeat against Tennessee in the second round. The Crimson Tide are now set to enter the NCAA Tournament sitting at 41-16 overall (16-14 in SEC).

10. Oklahoma Sooners​

Oklahoma used a pair of wins over Kentucky and Georgia in the first-and-second rounds, 5-1 and 3-2, respectively, to advance to the quarterfinals, but saw their run end Thursday with a 6-1 defeat to Vanderbilt. The Sooners are set to enter the NCAA Tournament at 35-20 overall (14-16 in SEC).

9. Florida Gators​

Florida opened the SEC Tournament on Tuesday with an 11-3 victory over South Carolina, but saw their time come to an end in the second round after a 3-1 defeat to Ole Miss. The Gators now enter the NCAA Tournament sporting a record of 38-20 overall (15-15 in SEC).

8. Georgia Bulldogs​

Georgia received a first round bye in the SEC Tournament, but fell Wednesday via a 3-2 upset loss at the hands of Oklahoma. As a result, the Bulldogs record now stands at 42-15 overall (18-12 in SEC).

7. Auburn Tigers​

After receiving a first round bye, Auburn's time in Hoover lasted only one game, as Texas A&M upset the Tigers on Wednesday by a final score of 3-2. The Tigers will enter the NCAA Tournament sitting at 38-18 overall (17-13 in SEC).

6. Texas Longhorns​

Texas, the SEC regular season champion, had a short stay in Hoover, as the Longhorns were upset by Tennessee in the quarterfinals by a final score of 7-5 in extra innings. The Longhorns enter the NCAA Tournament at 42-12 on the season (22-8 in SEC).

5. Tennessee Volunteers​

Tennessee opened play in Hoover on Wednesday with a 15-10 win over Alabama, and then backed that up with a 7-5 upset of Texas prior to falling in the semifinals to Vanderbilt, 10-0. The Volunteers' record entering the NCAA Tournament now sits at 43-16 overall (16-14 in SEC).

4. Arkansas Razorbacks​

Receiving a double-bye, Arkansas did not play until Friday when the Razorbacks were upset by Ole Miss, 5-2. As a result, Arkansas sits at 43-13 overall (20-10 in SEC) entering the NCAA Tournament.

3. LSU Tigers

Receiving a double-bye, LSU opened play in Hoover with a 4-3 win over Texas A&M in the quarterfinals, but went on to fall to Ole Miss in the semifinals by a final score of 2-0. The Tigers will now enter the SEC Tournament sporting a 43-14 overall record (19-11 in SEC).

2. Ole Miss Rebels​

One of the most impressive teams in Hoover was Ole Miss, who rattled off victories over Florida, Arkansas, and LSU by final scores of 3-1, 5-2, and 2-0, respectively, prior to falling in the championship game to Vanderbilt, 3-2. The Rebels will now enter the NCAA Tournament sporting a 40-19 overall record (16-14 in SEC).

1. Vanderbilt Commodores​

The final team standing this past week in Hoover was the Vanderbilt Commodores, who, as the conference's No. 4 seed, picked up wins over Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Ole Miss by final scores of 6-1, 10-0, and 3-2, respectively, to win the SEC Tournament title. Coming off a SEC Tournament title, Vanderbilt owns a 42-16 overall record (19-11 in SEC), and are riding an eight-game winning streak.
