On Thursday, the Texas Longhorns basketball program made a significant splash in the transfer portal, securing a commitment from St. John’s guard Simeon Wilcher.
The announcement, shared by Inside Texas on X, marks a major win for new head coach Sean Miller as he continues to reshape the Longhorns’ roster in his first year at the helm.
Wilcher, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound incoming junior, brings two years of eligibility and a wealth of potential to Austin.
During his sophomore season at St. John’s, the former top-35 recruit started 25 games, averaging 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
Known for his ability to attack the rim—Wilcher adds a dynamic slashing presence to a Longhorns backcourt already featuring returners Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, and Chendall Weaver, alongside fellow transfer Dailyn Swain from the Xavier Musketeers.

Miller’s aggressive approach in the transfer portal has been evident, with Wilcher joining other key additions like Matas Vokietaitis and Camden Heide, helping the Longhorns climb to No. 3 in On3’s portal rankings.
While Wilcher’s three-point shooting (29% last season) remains a work in progress, his athleticism, live-dribble navigation, and defensive improvement make him a valuable piece.
Described as a “great culture piece” by St. John’s coach Rick Pitino, Wilcher is expected to serve as a spark off the bench, complementing the Longhorns' perimeter nucleus.
With more scholarships still available, Miller is building a foundation for a top-25 team in the ultra-competitive SEC conference
Wilcher’s commitment signals that Texas basketball is on the rise under Miller’s methodical leadership.
