Somewhat lost in the shuffle of the 2025 NFL draft was rather interesting uniform news. Nike, the league's uniform provider, announced over draft weekend a new initiative starting in the coming season. Presenting: the Rivalries program.

Starting this year, teams from the NFC West and the AFC East will receive one new special "rivalries" alternate uniform to be worn during a game between one of their division rivals. With the Seahawks obviously being in the NFC West, they will be among the first in the league to receive a special new rivalry alternate.

Seattle was the first team to receive a new uniform when Nike first took the reigns in 2012, so it's only fitting they are among the first to be on the forefront once again in this endeavor. After all, the Seahawks are practically in Nike's "backyard" in the Pacific Northwest.

According to Nike:

The program will elevate NFL rivalry games over the next four seasons with specially designed Nike uniforms and fan gear. Rivalries will drive fan engagement by celebrating storied traditions and uniting communities with unique and elevated product designs...

...Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival. Following their reveal, these Rivalries uniforms will be included in their team’s uniform lineup for three years after introduction, in addition to existing alternate uniforms.

This sounds not all that dissimilar from the MLB's "City Connect" jerseys (also provided by Nike) which are unique alternate uniforms meant to represent each team's heritage/connection to their city and region. The uniforms will be revealed prior to the first rivalry game. Additionally, we will know which game is the designated rivalry game once the 2025 NFL schedule is officially released after March Wednesday, May 14th.

Currently, teams in the NFL are allowed up to four jerseys: a home one, an away one, and two alternates. There are also strict rules on when and for how many times an alternate uniform can be worn, although those rules were loosened a little bit for 2025.
