- The CPU contains eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, which are 31% faster than those in the Xbox One
- The GPU is made with 40 custom compute units running at 1172MHz
- The memory is 12 gigabytes of GDDR5 RAM running at a bandwidth of 326GB/s
- The built-in hard-drive is 2.5 inches and contains 1 terabyte of space
- The optical hard drive will support everything up to 4K ultra-HD Blu-ray discs
- A better color compression system
- A new audio processor for spatial surround sound, including support for Dolby Atmos
- A next-gen codec that allows you to capture your content in full HDR, which in many ways is more vibrant and impressive than 4K
- The GPU delivers on the 6.0-teraflop performance target promised earlier last year by Microsoft
- Project Scorpio will be 100% backwards compatible with all Xbox One and Xbox One S consoles
- Of the 12 gigabytes of memory, only 4GB is reserved for the system itself. Developers will have 8GB of memory to play around with for their games, to ensure quality performance, quick loading times, and better visuals
And here's what we still don't know about Project Scorpio, but hope to learn soon (possibly E3?):
- How much it will cost
- When it will go on sale
- If it will support any VR headsets or solutions, and which
- If it will support Microsoft's augmented reality headset, the HoloLens
- Which games will take advantage of the performance bonuses from Project Scorpio
While Microsoft isn't revealing what Project Scorpio looks like, or its name or price, Digital Foundry has provided some information on the ports. The rear of the console is based on the Xbox One S, so there's no dedicated Kinect port, but HDMI input is still present. Microsoft is also sticking to a 4K Blu-ray drive for the optical drive.
Digital Foundry says the final form factor for Project Scorpio will be revealed at E3, suggesting that Microsoft isn't planning to showcase its hardware at an event before its E3 press conference. All eyes will now firmly be on June to see what Microsoft has in terms of exclusive games titles, and just how competitive it can be in design and pricing.
Everyone is gearing up for VR gaming. Which is funny because it doesn't really interest me, unless you can actually plug me in like SAO or The Matrix.
if its anything like VR porn itll be amazing
A little underwhelming IMO for all of the type.
Really? What were you expecting? The more I read about it the more impressive and forward-thinking it appears to be.
what is it?
So its Xbox 2 basically?
So its Xbox 2 basically?
Basically.
They do plan on releasing hardware mroe often in the future. That really grinds my gears
Consoles are becoming money scams similar to Iphones. Hey look, a new $1,600 model every year, I HAVE TO GET IT!
I can plug in my 10 year old PS3, load up Uncharted, and see a perfect game with beautiful visuals.
All current consoles have plenty of juice in them. This is just a BS money grab. And watch, I guarantee youll see the X box 3's in 2 years after that

It doesn't bother me in the slightest bit. I love that they're pushing the envelope. Nobody if forcing anyone to do anything. If one wants to be on the cutting edge, you're going to choose to do so and cough up the Benjamins.
My buddy has the PS4 VR and it's freaking amazing. I'll never drop that cash for a 1st gen VR system, but he prioritizes it and we all have a blast.
The early adopters pave the way for those of us who don't mind waiting until the prices come down.
my point is they are holding out on us. They leak a little bit of new technology at time, and hold some back for future releases as the selling point.
This technology could not have been put in the original box in 2013. It would have been like $800 and been a complete failure.
