Sabrina Ionescu Makes New York Liberty Franchise History vs. Chicago Sky originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The defending WNBA champion, New York Liberty appear to be a team on a mission. After blowing out the Chicago Sky 85-66 on Tuesday night, the Liberty are now 9-0 on the season, tied for the best record in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx.

The Liberty seek to become just the fourth team in WNBA history to win back-to-back championships. While the Liberty seek to win with a balanced attack, perennial MVP candidate, Sabrina Ionescu continues to play some of the best basketball of her career.

Ionescu showed out against the Sky on Tuesday, posting a stat-line never accomplished before in Liberty franchise history.

Ionescu finished with 23 points, seven assists, four steals, two blocks while finishing plus-30 in 27 minutes.

Per @statmuse on X, these numbers have never been reached before in a single game in Liberty franchise history.

Ionescu is now averaging 17.9 points, 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 2.7 made 3-pointers per game. Ionescu, alongside Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Natasha Cloud headline a Liberty squad that is arguably the best team in the WNBA.

Statistically speaking, the Liberty have been the best team in the WNBA this season on both sides of the ball.

The Liberty's offense leads the league in points per game (90.4). Their defense leads the league in points allowed (71.4). And they also lead the league in field goal percentage (47.8) as well as blocks per game (5.4).

Ionescu and the Liberty will look to remain undefeated in their next game when they take on the Indiana Fever on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. This could potentially be Caitlin Clark's first game back in action after suffering a quadriceps injury (against the Liberty) on May 24.
