World number one Aryna Sabalenka overcame Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 in a seesaw battle on Sunday to reach the Porsche Grand Prix final for the fourth time, and will be hoping to lift the trophy at last.
Sabalenka squandered a 3-0 and 5-3 lead in the opening set and rallied from 3-0 down in the second to beat last year's French Open and Wimbledon finalist Paolini in 1 hour 35 minutes.
Sabalenka was a finalist at the star studded indoor clay tournament in Stuttgart three straight year 2021-2023, losing first to Ash Barty and then twice to Iga Swiatek.
In the final on Monday, Sabalenka faces Jelena Ostapenko, who defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-4 to reach a first clay court final since her surprise French Open title in 2017.
World number 24 Ostapenko and the 22nd ranked Alexandrova traded brakes early on before Ostapenko broke once more in each set for victory on first match point in 1:29 hours.
Ostapenko had ousted triple French Open champion Swiatek in the quarter-finals to remain unbeaten against her in six meetings.
