The man, from Chester, was competing in the Great Bristol Run [BBC]
A 28-year-old rugby player has died after collapsing at a half marathon.
Jon Devereux, from Chester, was taking part in the Great Bristol Run on Sunday, 11 May, when he collapsed and had to receive medical treatment.
He later died in hospital, the Great Bristol Run company confirmed. The cause of death will be determined after a medical examination.
Mr Devereux played rugby for Chester RUFC. The club said in a statement: "Jon was a talented athlete who played senior rugby for Chester, and his energy, spirit, and sportsmanship left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His sudden loss has deeply affected our members and the wider sporting community."
They Great Bristol Run company added: "The entire team involved in organising the Great Bristol Run extends their heartfelt condolences to Mr Devereux's family and friends."
