Doors keyboardist dies at 74 after a battle with bile duct cancer...

Damn...my three favorite key players have all died in the past few years:
Ray Manzarek (The Doors)
Rick Wright (Pink Floyd)
John Lord (Deep Purple)

Dude was awesome. I could never understand how he played the lead keyboard AND the bass lines at the same exact time on EVERY single song. That's unbelievable talent and skill. Best keyboardist ever. RIP.

RIP. Great Keyboardist, great band. Maybe he can start a trend with Rock and Roll Greats. The 70+ group sounds a lot better than the 27 club.

You forgot:

This is the end...

I couldn't forget that if my life depended on it. It isn't my favorite Doors song but I still remember the first time I heard it and the way I felt listening to it.

The Doors were a truly unique band. Nothing before or after was like them. In fact, you'd have to be crazy to try and mimic them mostly because of Manzarek's keyboards.

I remember when my dad told me that The Doors was when rock and roll became "too heavy" for him. Of course, that instantly made them 10 x's cooler for me. And, since I was also starting to use marijuana around that time, I was soon hooked on them. Will still crank those songs when I stumble on one on the radio.

RIP, Ray Manzarek.

Is there any song in rock that was any more sinister, and dark, than The End?

I've listened to a whole lot of dark music in my day, and that song is still the one that gave me the creepiest feeling ever the first time I heard it.

It was creepy but the path it took to get to creepy is what really stunned me.

The End is one of the all time great creepy, dark tunes. Not surpassed until the song Black Sabbath was released imo.

Black Sabbath is definitely the creepiest song ever.

It is certainly the standard that everyone points to for that type of music. But the evil depicted in The End is more realistic IMO.

There are quite a few other Doors songs I think are better.
