The Cleveland Browns have no shortage of quarterbacks in their room, especially after selecting two quarterbacks in the NFL Draft. Having already rostered Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett via free agency and a trade, respectively, the Browns got aggressive in the draft.

The team still has an injured Deshaun Watson on the roster as well who has to factor in in some capacity after this season.

The Browns drafted Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third, and landed Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round.

By drafting quarterbacks and acquiring two more, the Browns are clearly trying to find a solution at the position, if nothing else then at least by volume.

The Browns also have two first-round picks next season, and their offseason moves suggest they are hoping to avoid taking a quarterback with one of those two picks next season.

A former Browns quarterback - Robert Griffin III - believes the Browns are setting Sanders specifically up to fail in this situation.

“Shedeur Sanders is in a situation where the NFL and the Cleveland Browns have set him up to sink or swim in Year 1,” Robert Griffin III said recently. “What I really mean by that is they set him up to fail.”

Griffin went on to point out that as a fifth-round selection, Sanders may not receive ample reps to truly compete for the starting job. Conversely, head coach Kevin Stefanski has stated to the media that every quarterback will have the opportunity to compete for the starting gig.

“Guys that are drafted in the fifth round typically don’t make NFL rosters,” Griffin said. “And if they do, it’s because they showed their absolute talent in the preseason and all through training camp.”

Regardless of his draft position, Sanders will stick around if he can prove himself worth his keep. The Browns have been desperate for a quality quarterback for years, and if Sanders, and all that comes with him, can be that player, the Browns would not think twice about holding on to him.

The Browns may end up needing to cut one of their four quarterbacks (assuming Watson isn't on the table given his contract), and Sanders will need to prove he isn't the one to cut loose.
