Should the Houston Texans target a lineman early in the NFL draft, they'll have to grab a receiver on Day 2. Most fans would love nothing more than to see Texas star Matthew Golden return home as the new No. 2 option.

Another Longhorns pass-catcher could be in play in Round 3.

According to KPRC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond met with the Texans via Zoom following the NFL combine and ahead of the Longhorns' Pro Day. The speedy target also has in-person visits lined up with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans.

Bond, a native of Georgia, also will meet with the Atlanta Falcons at their local prospect day, but it won't go against their top-30 visits. Since Bond didn't formally come into the Texans' building, that also won't count as a top-30 visit.

While Bond failed to meet his pre-combine goal of surpassing former Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy's 4.21 record-setting 40-time, he still impressed during the Longhorns' Pro Day. Bond ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 and 4.35 seconds, .4 seconds faster than his time at the NFL scouting combine. He also didn’t drop any passes and excelled in route-running.

The Texans need a No. 2 weapon as an outside running mate with Nico Collins. The slot spot should be in good hands with a healthy Christian Kirk, but every other free agency signing was built more so for depth. Both John Metchie III and Xavier Hutchinson are also looking to make the active roster in 2025 while All-Pro returner Braxton Berrios is coming off an ACL injury.

Bond won't garner first-round buzz, but the Texans should be an option at one of their third-round picks. Known for his speed coming out of high school, Bond was a Georgia state champion in both 100-meterand 200-meter events. He also became a reliable weapon for Jalen Milroe at Alabama in 2023 while helping the Crimson Tide reach the College Football Playoff.

After transferring to Texas, Bond caught 34 passes for 540 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Longhorns. For his career, he averaged 15.9 yards per catch and collected 99 receptions for 1,428 yards and 10 TDs.

Should the Texans go for a Longhorn on Thursday night, offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. or Golden should be in play. In Round 2, the Texans could at least inquire about defensive lineman Alfred Collins, who previously met with the franchise at the combine. In Round 3, Bond for been the bullet missing from an offensive looking to explode in 2025.
