A few days ago, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are moving away from their stance of not taking any long-term salary in a trade in order to be able to chase Giannis Antetokounmpo or Nikola Jokić over the next two years. He wrote that the Lakers are now in "win-now mode" and will look to bring in the right player for the right price to make themselves legitimate championship contenders.

Stein wrote that Los Angeles would be interested in a player such as Miami Heat two-way wing Andrew Wiggins. Now, another insider, Evan Sidery, has reported that the L.A. and Miami have "reopened discussions" on a trade that would bring Wiggins to the Purple and Gold.

Sidery wrote that L.A. is open to giving up Dalton Knecht in a potential trade, but that Miami wants a first-round draft pick. Los Angeles currently only has one first-round pick it can give up in a trade, per NBA rules.

Both teams reportedly had discussions about Wiggins earlier this summer, but those talks went nowhere, apparently because Miami was asking for too much in return for him.

Wiggins, 30, may or may not be the exact type of player to put the Lakers over the top. But the Lakers do need one or two 3-and-D players in order to seriously contend for the world title right now.

The 6-foot-7 forward was arguably the second-best player on the Golden State Warriors when they won the 2022 championship. He averaged 18 points a game and shot 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range.
