After an extended offseason filled with negotiations and trade rumors, Jonathan Kuminga's restricted free agency saga with the Golden State Warriors has stretched to September. However, with training camp quickly approaching, a recent report has revealed an option the Warriors could take to potentially lock up Kuminga on a new contract and end their summer-long stalemate.
According to Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of ESPN, the Warriors recently offered the 22-year-old forward a three-year, $75.2 million contract. The Warriors' new contract offer reportedly includes a team option in the third season, per Slater and Charania. The team option in the third season is causing a holdup.
In a recent report from Slater, Kuminga and his representation is willing to sign a contract in Golden State if the Warriors change their team option to a player option. According to Slater, Kuminga is willing to buy in on the mission to get Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler a title.

Kuminga, the former No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, has spent the first four seasons of his career with the Warriors. Last season, he played 47 games, averaging 15.3 points on 45.5% shooting from the field to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Kuminga had a strong stretch during the middle of the 2024-25 season, scoring in double-figures in 17 consecutive games, including back-to-back 34-point performances. Kuminga then suffered an ankle injury that caused him to miss two months. During his time on the sideline, the Warriors acquired Butler in a blockbuster deal with the Heat.
Following his return from injury, Kuminga bounced in and out of the rotation for the stretch run of the regular season and into the postseason. When Curry suffered an injury in the second round of the postseason, Kuminga had a strong performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 20.8 points in five games.
The offseason stalemate between Kuminga and the Warriors has held up Golden State's offseason plans. With training camp around the corner, the Warriors have yet to make an official offseason signing. Once Kuminga's situation is resolved, the Warriors have been linked to signing multiple veteran free agents like Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II.
Training camp is set to begin on Sep. 29 for the Warriors with the preseason starting Oct. 4.
