Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow Emphasizes Boston Will Be Buyers at MLB Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Red Sox, after trading away Rafael Devers, are still considered by some to be buyers at the MLB trade deadline. Despite trading away their best player offensively, the Red Sox are still in solid shape overall and fighting for a Wild Card spot.
With the team close to a postseason spot, the Red Sox being buyers after the Devers trade isn't out of the question. During an appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow commented on his team's approach at the deadline.
"We absolutely went into this season with the expectation that we were going to compete," Breslow said. "And looking to the trade deadline to bolster the team. That's still where our heads are."
At the beginning of the year, the Red Sox being buyers wasn't a surprise. They had a lot of strong performers from a year ago returning, they added Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman, and had top prospects ready to get the call.
But, after the rough start and the Devers trade, it didn't look like the Red Sox would be buying at the deadline. But, Breslow paints it clearly: The Red Sox intend to be buyers at the deadline.

Boston sits 2.5 games back of the Wild Card in the American League, a little over a month from the trade deadline. While there is plenty of time to catch up, there's also ample opportunity to fall in the standings.
Breslow fully intends for the Red Sox to buy at the deadline despite the team trading away Devers. That move would typically indicate a team is going to sell, but the front office has been steadfast in shutting down talks of the team selling at the deadline.
This latest comment from Breslow indicates that even after the Devers deal and a recent skid, the Red Sox will still look to buy at the MLB trade deadline. With a need at first base and in the rotation, the Red Sox will have plenty of competition for their top targets.
