There are a lot of positive things to write about Los Angeles Rams star receiver Puka Nacua. He established himself as a true No. 1 receiver as soon as he entered the league, broke rookie records and almost put together his second consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2024 despite missing seven games.
But perhaps the biggest positive about Nacua is how much he currently costs. Nacua, a fifth-round pick in 2023, will count just $1 million against the Rams salary cap in 2025 despite his importance in the offense.
Nacua's contract plus his production led Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema to dub the Rams receiver as "the most valuable contract in the NFL," apart from all the quarterback contracts.
Having a superstar receiver on a cheap deal is always helpful, but Nacua won't even count for half of a percent of the Rams' salary cap in 2025.
No team can get that type of value unless they are expert drafters or savvy negotiators. The Rams proved to be great scouts in recent years, and Nacua might be the biggest example of that.
But new deals are always looming on the horizon. L.A. will soon find out what it costs to keep another late-round pick in running back Kyren Williams. Nacua, though, might be exponentially more expensive given Ja'Marr Chase will make $40 million a year and other top pass-catchers are making more than $30 million a year.
The Rams won't have to worry about that, though, for at least another year.
