The NFL’s reception leader’s status for Week 7 is uncertain.

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said wide receiver Puka Nacua is “day-to-day” due to an ankle sprain the receiver suffered in Week 6.

“He has an ankle sprain. He'll be day-to-day, and his status is uncertain for the game,” McVay said Monday. “I was encouraged by the scan in terms of what it revealed. Whether that means he's able to play like the guy that we're accustomed to seeing on Sunday will be a weekly process for us.

"What we are grateful for is there's nothing on the scan that looks like it's going to be long term. The uncertainty of this week is a real thing.”

Nacua sustained the ankle injury during the second quarter of the Rams’ 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens. He returned to the game in the third quarter but didn’t have another target. He finished with two catches for 28 yards.

Nacua leads the NFL with 54 receptions and 65 targets. His 54 receptions are the third most in the last 70 years through the first six weeks of a season. Nacua’s 616 receiving yards rank second in the league.

The Rams are practicing in Baltimore this week ahead of their Week 7 trip against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The team has Week 8 bye after the London game.

McVay said the bye won’t factor into Nacua’s availability for this week.

The Rams host the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.

If the Rams are without Nacua, Davante Adams will likely become Matthew Stafford’s top target on the outside. Adams’ 26 catches, 55 targets and 396 receiving yards all rank second on the team behind Nacua. Adams’ three touchdown receptions are tied for a team-high.

“I feel tremendous confidence in Davante. That's a real luxury,” McVay said. “Davante, has been, is still a focal point whether Puka is playing or not and that’s been consistent throughout the first six games.”

Tutu Atwell, who missed Week 6 because of a hamstring injury, is also expected to return this week.

The 4-2 Rams are in a three-way tie with the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks atop the NFC West.
