Put up or pack up

There are several NFL veterans who'll be on the hot seat this season, but even if they make it through this year unscathed, they could see a reduction in playing time or be shown the door early in 2011. FOXSports.com takes a look at six veterans whose jobs could very well be on the line in 2010 and beyond. -- Adam Caplan

As we all (or a lot of us anyway) wonder about Leinart there was a REAL interesting quote from Fitz in the thread titled, "Fitz: Don't Overlook Cardinals". He's quoted as saying, "So I think there is not going to be as much pressure on Matt or Derek or whoever's going to play for us...". Hmmm....

Training camp might just be extra-interesting this year.

Obviously this is pure speculation. There's zero chance that Skelton comes close to the field next year:

With the retirement of starting Kurt Warner, it's Leinart's job to lose. While he'll have veteran Derek Anderson backing him up, it could be rookie John Skelton who Leinart may be looking over his shoulder at over the coming months. The coaching staff indentified Skelton, selected in the fifth round, as a good fit for their passing offense well before April's NFL draft. So, it's not unreasonable to think the strong-armed passer could get a serious shot to play in 2011 if he's up to speed on their playbook. Another factor against Leinart is he's due over $7 million in base salary in 2011 — the final year of his rookie deal. Keep in mind this coaching staff wasn't around when Leinart was drafted in 2006. -- Adam Caplan

Yeah, it's Leinart's job. Hey, folks can keep thinking it's not going to be, or it possibly won't be, but I'm convinced it's Leinart's job.
