Purvis' Joseph "JoJo" Parker has been selected as the Gatorade Mississippi baseball player of the year for the 2025 season on June 3.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior had a .489 batting average with 35 RBIs, 13 home runs and 64 runs scored. As a pitcher, Parker was 8-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 55⅔ innings. Parker helped Purvis reach the MHSAA Class 4A state title game, where it fell to West Lauderdale in three games.
"JoJo Parker is a born leader on and off the baseball field," Purvis coach Tony Farlow said in a news release. "His baseball knowledge and work ethic are exceptional. He has a great attitude and relentless dedication that have made him one of the best high school players in the country.”
Parker, a shortstop, was a 2025 Perfect Game Preseason First Team All-American and was awarded MHSAA 4A Co-Mr. Baseball, shared with his twin brother, Jacob. JoJo Parker is a Mississippi State baseball signee.
MLB.com has Parker as the No. 10 overall draft prospect and a projected early first-round selection in their recent rankings. The projection marks Parker as the No. 5 high school prospect in this year's upcoming 2025 MLB draft, which will occur July 13-14.

Parker is the first MHSAA player to win the award since Montgomery in 2021 at Madison Central.
