We’ve discussed what the Colorado Rockies should do at first base and second base.

Tonight, let’s turn our attention to the hot corner: What should the Rockies do at third base?

(You’ve made clear that you do not see bringing back Nolan Arenado as a viable option.)

After the Rockies traded Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees, Kyle Karros became the starting third baseman. Do you think he’s ready to take on the job full-time, or, given the Rockies’ new front office staff, would he benefit from additional MiLB development time?

The Rockies have signed three utility infielders: Chad Stevens, Vimael Machín, and Nicky Lopez, all of whom have third base experience.

Or perhaps they might wish to consider a veteran free agent. Here’s a list of available third basemen:

  • Alex Bregman (32 years old, 7.7 WAR)
  • Eugenio Suárez (34, 7.6)
  • Paul DeJong (32, 1.9)
  • Yoán Moncada (31, 1.0)
  • Kiké Hernández (34, 0.5)
  • Andy Ibáñez (32, 1.1)
  • Luis Urías (29, 0.3)
  • Gio Urshela (34, 0.3
  • Jon Berti (36, -0.2)

So, I throw the question out to the Purple Row night owls: What should the Rockies do at 3B — at least to start the season?

Speaking of third basement, last weekend, this came up about former Rockies utility player Aaron Schunk, and I wanted to include it:
