As we close in on the Atlanta Falcons' fifth draft under general manager Terry Fontenot, the team is desperate for a defensive playmaker. Fontenot hasn't drafted a single defensive player in the first round, but many expect that to change this time around.

Since the Falcons were largely inactive in free agency and have just three selections in the first six rounds of the 2025 NFL draft, they have to make each pick count more so than in recent years. Ideally, an elite defensive talent will slide to Atlanta at pick No. 15.

In a new seven-round mock draft from Pro Football Network, Georgia linebacker prospect Jalon Walker falls into the team's lap. A projected top-10 pick, Walker is someone who could fill a need for Atlanta while providing excellent value.

Georgia LB Jalon Walker falls to Falcons in Round 1

"Adding Leonard Floyd should help the Atlanta Falcons’ pass rush, but their defensive front still needs work," wrote Jacob Infante of Pro Football Network. "Whether Jalon Walker is a Frankie Luvu-type hybrid linebacker or a pure edge rusher, his athleticism and motor stand out. His speed and energy could bring new life to an NFL defense and bring juice to two areas the Falcons need help with."

Walker is an interesting prospect. While some view him as a blue-chip talent with elite potential as an NFL edge rusher, others see a versatile off-ball linebacker who needs refinement. You could say the same about any number prospects in any draft class, but Walker seems to have enough in his toolbox to secure a home in the top 10.

Falcons add future starting CB in Round 2

In Round 2 of PFN's mock, the Falcons land East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. at pick No. 46. Revel would be another good value pick who could provide a long-term stability in the secondary.

"Shavon Revel Jr. is a physical freak with tremendous length and ball skills for a cornerback, and he's a much better athlete than most taller corners," wrote Infante. "He falls out of Round 1 due to a season-ending injury, but he's a high-upside flyer that a team will take a chance on."

Revel is a projected late-first/early-second-round pick with elite size for the position (6-foot-3, 193 pounds).

Falcons take another Georgia LB in Round 4

PFN's mock projected the Falcons to take another Georgia linebacker in Round 4, adding Smael Mondon Jr. with pick 118. Mondon is a raw prospect who has the physical traits to play at the next level. Some think he can develop into a starting caliber off-ball linebacker if given time. Atlanta did not re-sign Nate Landman and could use some interior linebacker depth.

Falcons close out PFN's mock draft with WR, EDGE

Atlanta closes out PFN's mock by taking Arkansas wide receiver Andrew Armstrong and Missouri EDGE Johnny Walker Jr. in the seventh round. Armstrong had a virtual visit with the Falcons before the draft, and he would make sense as a Day 3 depth target.

Falcons linked to more prospects ahead of 2025 NFL draft

Atlanta has continued to scout both early and late-round prospects in the weeks leading up to the draft. Here's a look at some of the team's recent pre-draft visits.
