Whether it was failing to mount a challenge against Tyler Lockett’s “catch,” giving budding star Aaron Jones only six touches in the second half, some adventurous timeout management or the decision to punt 4th and 2 on Green Bay’s final possession, McCarthy’s detractors had plenty to point to as the Packers lost 27-24 and fell to 4-5-1. For many, no moment symbolized what McCarthy cost the Packers more than that decision to not go for it on 4th and 2. Armed with one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history in Aaron Rodgers and needing only two yards, McCarthy instead placed his faith in a defense that had given up 147 yards in the Seahawks’ previous two possessions.
