Phoenix Rising FC tops LA Galaxy II 2 - 1

Phoenix Rising picks up 3 points and moves them up to a tie for 8th place. This was an important win to keep the Rising in the playoff picture. I'm really liking how Eric Avila has played in the last couple of games since joining the team. He is quickly becoming one of my favorites as we are both Alums of UC Santa Barbara. Jason Johnson has also really stepped up his game since Luke Rooney went down with a season ending knee injury.

Phoenix Rising FC Forward Jason Johnson Named to USL Team of the Week

(PHOENIX) May 30, 2017 – Phoenix Rising FC forward Jason Johnson was named to the United Soccer League Team of the Week for Week 10. Johnson becomes the third player this season to receive the honor. Midfielder Luke Rooney had been named to the Team of the Week twice, in week 3 and week 5. Shaun Wright-Phillips was named to the Team of the Week in week 8.

Johnson had an assist and a goal in Phoenix Rising FC’s 2-1 win over LA Galaxy II on Saturday, May 27. His penalty kick was the game-winning goal for the club.

Since Luke Rooney was lost for the season with a torn ACL, Johnson has really stepped up as his replacement. He has shown great speed on the outside that opposing defenses have to respect.
