The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to move forward in the offseason after a miserable year in 2024-25 as injuries decimated the roster. The Sixers do have the No. 3 pick in their possession so that is what will be helpful for them as they look to bounce back.
With that being said, one has to wonder what free agency will look like for Philadelphia. The Sixers have 11 free agents they have to take care of. The cap space will be a bit limited in 2025 after the big spending spree in 2024, so don't expect the Sixers to be major players in free agency, but they will be looking to keep a number of key free agents.
Up next in this free agency series is Quentin Grimes. The Sixers acquired the 4-year guard from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline and will be looking to keep him in the fold after he produced 21.9 points per game while shooting 46.9% from the floor and 37.3% from deep in 28 games.
Free agency status: Restricted
2024-25 salary: $4.3 million
Prediction: Stays
The Sixers made a big move at the deadline looking ahead to the future and get a bit younger. Grimes is only 25 years old and figures to get better at this stage of his career. One has to believe president Daryl Morey and Co. will do their best to keep him in tow. His game figures to fit like a glove next to the three stars--which was highlighted here in a film session--and he can play a number of different roles on the floor. His production was too great for the Sixers not to bring him back and plug him in with a healthy roster.
With that being said, it will be tricky to bring him back. There will be a team out there, the Brooklyn Nets are a popular option, that will throw money at him to see if the Sixers will go overboard for him. At the moment, the Sixers are below the aprons, but they will certainly go over the first one in order to bring back Guerschon Yabusele. Therefore, the Sixers will need to make some salary cap acrobatics to bring back Grimes. One has to believe a salary dump trade will be coming before free agency begins on June 30 in order to create the space necessary.
