The Atlanta Falcons won't have the luxury of a top-10 pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, but they should still be able to secure a difference maker at pick No. 15. While the team has hosted a few projected first-round prospects on offense, most around the league expect Atlanta to target defense in Round 1.

Offensively, the Falcons have the pieces in place to be great in 2025. However, the defense struggled for much of the season and arguably got worse since it ended. The team replaced Matthew Judon and Grady Jarrett with Leonard Floyd and Morgan Fox in free agency.

In what will be a transitional year under defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, expect to see more of the team's young talent, including Ruke Orhorhoro and Bralen Trice.

The Falcons could still use some athleticism up front and a new mock draft from Pro Football Focus has them finding it in the first round. PFF projected Atlanta to select Texas A&M edge prospect Shemar Stewart with the 15th overall pick.

"The Falcons address their need for a talented edge defender with Shemar Stewart," wrote PFF's Jordan Plocher. "He has tremendous size at 6-foot-5 and 281 pounds with 34 1/4-inch arms. Stewart will be a great draft-and-develop prospect after earning an 88.2 PFF run-defense grade in 2024 amid continued improvements as a pass rusher."

Stewart is still a project as a pass rusher but should continue to develop in that area based on his athletic ability alone.

Shemar Stewart is a DE prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 10.00 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 1 out of 2012 DE from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/ACSFv0wnnKpic.twitter.com/g4DbViX3qJ

The Texas A&M standout compiled a RAS (Relative Athletic Score) of 10, which is the highest score recorded by a defensive end prospect in the history of the metric.

Stewart is someone who could contribute right away as a run-stuffing edge, but his ability to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks shouldn't be overlooked. In 2024, he recorded 33 hurries for the Aggies.

With his elite athleticism and huge frame, Stewart's NFL ceiling is incredibly high. The Falcons need pass-rush help, however, they should also look to improve upon a run defense that finished 15th in yards allowed per game last season.

Stewart is someone who could potentially do both. The team previously hosted him a top-30 visit, and he's definitely an option in the first round.
