Quarterbacks Josh Dobbs and Drake Maye have something in common, and it involves a former New England Patriots player.
When speaking with the media, Dobbs revealed that former Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett is one of his mentors. The two signal-callers played together with the Cleveland Browns back in 2022. Brissett also served as a mentor for Maye during his rookie season in New England last year.
Even after Maye took his starting job nearly halfway through the season, Brissett continued to be supportive and helpful behind the scenes. That's the same responsibility Dobbs is hoping to take on in Maye's second NFL season.
Unlike Brissett, Dobbs won't be asked to start right out of the gates. He's coming onto the team as the top backup quarterback and a veteran presence Maye can lean on as needed.
His experience with a multitude of different teams makes him a valuable addition to the Patriots' roster. He started in one game and played in two games last season with the San Francisco 49ers.
If a catastrophe strikes, he has 15 NFL starts and more than enough experience to take over the reins for the team.
