Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is maturing before our eyes, going toe-to-toe with the longtime face of the NBA, LeBron James.
In Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers, Edwards finished with a series-high 43 points to lead Minnesota to a 116-113 win on Sunday, April 27, setting the series at 3-1 Wolves.
Edwards heated up late in the first half, scoring 10 points and adding two assists in the final five minutes. Feeling his oats, Edwards got into a shoving match with James amid his hot run to end the half.
Edwards was undeterred despite the skirmish with James. He hit a step-back three over Rui Hachimura, followed by a drive to the basket where he finished threw contact and drew the foul with 1 minute, 43 seconds left on the clock.
Edwards' run to close the half left fans in attendance chanting "M-V-P" with Edwards approaching the and-one opportunity.
The impression Edwards left through the adversity and aggressive matchup with James was not lost on those watching from home, either, including NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

During Edwards' clutch first-half run that gave the Timberwolves the lead at halftime, Mahomes posted a five-word reaction on X: "No wayyy! Come on ant! "
What Mahomes didn't know is that Edwards was just getting started. He saved his best performance for the fourth quarter, where he poured in 16 more points in a back-and-forth affair that went wire-to-wire.
The game ended with a controversial foul on James, where he swatted the ball out of Edwards' hand under the basket. Upon further review, officials ruled that James hit Edwards' wrist, leading to a foul call and a pair of converted free throws from Edwards that gave the Wolves a three-point lead.
The Lakers had just 11 seconds to advance the ball, leading to an Austin Reaves three-point heave on the corner that caromed off the rim and out -- setting up an elimination Game 5 in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
