Pat McAfee is one of the biggest names at ESPN.
The network ponied up $85 million over five years to pry him away from FanDuel and bring his popular “Pat McAfee Show” to its airwaves.
And as McAfee celebrated his 38th birthday on Friday, his wife Samantha posted a lengthy heartfelt Instagram post honoring her husband, who she stated “still deals with everyday life issues and shows up every single day for his many careers without skipping a beat, without anybody knowing anything.”
Samantha pointed out that McAfee gets little to no sleep, works six or seven days a week and appears on multiple shows across ESPN and has built a wildly successful career.

But amid the praise she was heaping on her husband, she also revealed some tragic personal news that the couple have been dealing with behind the scenes that she felt gave fans a bit more insight into everything McAfee has had to juggle recently.

“I know it’s personal, but the past year has been a difficult one,” Samantha wrote. “We lost a very close family member and he has lost some close friends and teammates, he has dealt with disgusting humans that sit behind keyboards typing hate towards himself and his family (with grace he has dealt with it I might add) He has had to learn a new wife after losing herself in grief. We lost another child this year, which was gut wrenching for us.
“Speaking of fatherhood, he tries to make his business trips within a day so he can be home for his daughter in the mornings, not to just mention the fact we have a toddler so most parents understand there are no breaks in that but he shows up and makes time for Kenzie, he has a deep passion to be a present girl dad.”
While McAfee’s brash personality and outspoken demeanor often rub many people the wrong way, Samantha’s post showed a different side of the former Indianapolis Colts punter that most fans don’t get to see.
