The second NFL season for Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks is over before it even got started.
As announced as part of a slew of roster moves on Thursday afternoon, the Panthers have placed Brooks on the physically unable to perform list. The placement officially sidelines the 21-year-old rusher for the entirety of the 2025 campaign.
Despite sustaining an ACL tear in November of 2023, Brooks was taken by Carolina in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft. He'd go on to miss the first 10 games of his rookie year while recovering from the injury.
Brooks debuted in the team's Week 12 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he totaled seven yards on two rushing attempts.
Two weeks later, Brooks re-tore the same ACL in Philadelphia—cutting off his comeback at just three games.
Carolina has since signed veteran Rico Dowdle to provide depth at the running back position behind starter Chuba Hubbard. They also selected University of Georgia's Trevor Etienne in the fourth round of the 2025 draft.
