The problem is so bad, the FDA can't tackle it. Decades of leaded gas emissions and other issues have poisoned the soils our food is grown in creating high levels of arsenic and other metals.

This article is about baby food but explains the broader problem.

Parents Erupt Over FDA Failure To Regulate Toxic Metals in Food
Lead, arsenic and cadmium are commonly found in baby foods, but also in many of the ingredients families use to make their own.

“This is not a baby food problem. This is a food problem,” ...

Crops pull up heavy metals from soil, where some of the metals are naturally occurring but much of the contamination stems from more than a century of pollution, from car exhaust to coal emissions and agricultural chemicals.

It's hard for the FDA to set a standard for contaminants in baby food when they are everywhere even if parents make their own baby food.

Hopefully under President Biden the FDA will will at least try to set a standard for heavy metals.

With how much hip hop has overtaken american culture, I imagine the government forgets heavy metal even exists.

This is a better explanation for the possible rise in autism than vaccines are.

And perhaps other diseases as well.

Our system is broken. industries are allowed to profit at our peril. When science catches up and points out the problems, industries are too powerful to regulate.

So we are forced into the health care system, which can't cure the illnesses, but can force us into bankruptcy from all the medical bills.

It is very disturbing. I made my daughter's baby food until she got to be a toddler. Now that she's almost six, she is picky and only eats a few kinds of veggies and fruits. She does, however, love those baby food pouches, which have kale, spinach, and heavy metals, apparently. :(

FDA signals plan to address toxic elements in baby food

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday signaled that it intends to address toxic elements in baby foods after a congressional report found that heavy metals were present in some baby foods.

The agency said in a statement that it will “soon be putting into action a plan aimed at reducing toxic elements in foods for babies and young children to levels as low as is reasonably achievable.”

The FDA said it intended to focus on increased inspections at facilities and boosting sampling of baby foods.

Progress, but again this is a problem with all our food. What good is it if those babies start consuming the high levels of arsenic, etc once they become toddlers and beyond that?
