I don't even see the issue with Soldier Field. Great location, iconic stadium & over the years they've put a ton of money into it to keep it modern.
smallest stadium in football

now dome to host events like final four, super bowl, etc

compared to a stadium like allegiant or sofi its terribly mundane

that's exactly why I hate suburban stadiums. you have to drive and then add in that some of them are drunk drivers. i never drove to a football game in England. and in Newcastle I walked from the stadium to my hotel, like 2-3 miles lol. but it was a fun walk.

in Vegas I've heard they have a tunnel that goes under IH 15 and takes one to the Mandalay Bay.

I know they have a walkway/bridge back to the strip. When I went, I stayed at the MGM and we walked back. Maybe a ten-minute walk.

That's you, not the tens of thousands of people driving in to park and/or tailgating.

all facts and I'm not a bears fan anyway so I really don't care where they build their stadium, just saying there are some people out there who prefer a different experience and don't like to drive or tailgate. I don't go to the new cowboys stadium because the location is awful and the fans are terrible. I know because I used to live there. I don't know why people pay to go to that place. I don't even like to go to high school football games there because the traffic is stupid.

yeah I have a family member from Utah that went to a bowl game there. they were able to stay at Mandalay Bay and walk back and forth. I also like the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals setup. their stadiums are pedestrian friendly and link with downtown (with bridges) so you can dodge the ridiculous traffic if you make a day/night of it.

I understand why they want a new stadium. but yeah it is an icon, at least from the outside looking in. maybe its a dumpster fire for the fans, IDK. I think it probably lost its luster since they changed it 20 years ago, but I would think a lot of bears fans would want to keep it there. that said I could be 100% wrong because I'm not a bears fan and have not been there.

I don't understand the concept of not keeping stadiums in downtown areas near cool things to do. I hate suburban stadiums. Just bulldoze soldier field and rebuild it there. make them play in St. Louis or Milwaukee while they wait.

Not just parking, but the price of real estate. The further you get away from downtown, the cheaper the land is.

Illinois gonna Illinois.

Gotta give Indiana credit, when the opportunity struck, they jumped and will ultimately win.

Hammond would be an awful location.

I-90 is a traffic nightmare - and you are looking at an hour plus drive just to get to the parking areas from the West, Northwest and North Suburbs

Closer than Tempe-Glendale.

When’s the last time you’ve been in the area? Hammond and the rest of NWI has been built up quite a bit with people leaving Chicago, and I-90 south of Chicago is better than I-90 in town. The Amtrak line runs pretty close to the Wolf Lake site, as well.

Everything I have seen reported says the commute will be the same or less than going from Soldier Field to the Arlington Heights location. I think that is key in why this move is even possible.

correct, There also exists many fans in NW Indiana.

Soldier is awful getting in and out of.

Bears offer to pay for entire cost of 2 billion dollar stadium. Illinois responds with 100 million dollar property tax. Unreal. I love that the bears are going to stick it to Illinois.

Oh and you can be sure fat boy Pritzker will tax them on the way out.

Hellinois strikes again. If Bruce Rauner was governor you can rest assured the bears would have a world class stadium in Chicago

Sorry Bear fans, your governor sucks. Everyone is laughing at Illinois.

Chicago pretty much is at the border of Indiana.
Plus they have much better incentives for the Bears. Oh well for Chicago.

Can Portland take the crappy Cardinals off our hands?

Two years ago - drove up US 41.

And Tempe to State Farm Stadium is half the distance, and 1/3 the time as it is to get from Naperville, or Arlington Heights to Hammond.

If you lived in Chicago. But most of the season ticket holders live in the Northwest/North Suburbs. So on the opposite side of Chicago from where the season ticket holders live.

That is like saying the distance from Central and Camelback to either Glendale or Mesa Riverview is the same - for those few Cardinal/Coyote season ticket holders that live in Central Phoenix - sure. But for those in the east Valley, huge difference

I mean … that’s a two-lane divided highway running through more towns than you can shake a stick at. Not exactly a fast route. That’d be like taking Van Buren to get to the zoo from downtown Phoenix instead of hopping on I-10.
