I fell in love with the morning paper baseball box scores back in the early 60's and for decades it was the first part of the newspaper I went to every day in season. Joe Morgan had some of the most intriguing performances I've ever seen. I especially liked one of his off days where he went 0 for 2 yet scored 5 runs.

I never paid much attention to the Astros but that first 6 years or so once Morgan was traded to Cincinnati might be my favorite stretch of baseball. As a 10 year old sports fan I was thrilled to get your 1964 rookie card but I'll admit, I treasured it mostly because we shared a birthday (11 years apart). It took me another decade to truly appreciate what a unique and outstanding player you were and by that time, I no longer had your card. RIP Joe Morgan, thanks for some great baseball memories.
