I think gambling on events you are a part of is a level of corruption that goes beyond anything else, this goes from politics to sports, the crimes of the steroid era are nothing in comparison to players who gambled on baseball. Alive or dead, Pete Rose should be viewed as fallen hero.

IMO, the only reason the league has changed their stance is the league getting in bed with the sports books. Hard to justify banning Pete Rose for life when you're offering +300, plus a 50% boost if you refer a friend to bet on Ohtani to hit a dinger!

I hope Pete Rose's kids say "thanks but no thanks". You didnt need Pete while he was alive...youre not going to profit off him now that he's dead. MLB could have done this a few years ago and let an 80 something year old Pete Rose actually see it...instead they did a final "F you" by waiting until he was dead.

He earned that "F you." He signed off on his punishment and refused to acknowledge what he had done at the same time. F Pete Rose.

Yeah, it wasn't Pete that was cheated, it was us baseball fans. And it was Pete that cheated us, not MLB. I agree with making it a lifetime punishment and I support making him eligible now that he's dead but again, that's for us fans.

Just because he and others are eligible does not mean they will get voted in either.

The HOF is about stats and on field performance....not character. There are guys in there who were openly racist and promoted segregation, guys that hit their wives, etc....none

Pete Rose was not a good person...but he was a great ball player. Nothing he did diminishes that in any way.

Like I said earlier, I hope Pete's Kids tell MLB to pound sand. Why should they let MLB profit off him in the "Pete Rose HOF Primetime Special" sponsored by Draft Kings?

They are a bunch of hypocrites who not only promote gambling...but currently are choosing to look the other way as their biggest star...Shohei Otahni is a degenerate gambler who has already been caught. When should I expect his lifetime ban??? Oh yea...maybe when he is no longer bringing in money for MLB.

Pete got what he agreed to for breaking baseball's #1 rule. It wasn't for him being an cornholio away from baseball, it was for him betting on games he was an active participant in. They gave him several chances to come clean, but all he did was lie over and over until he wanted to sell his book. I have zero sympathy for the guy.

If MLB had had clear rules about PEDs from the start like they did gambling, I think you could begin to compare them. But participants in the games betting on them is much more dangerous to the game that players taking greenies or steroids, or even being a drug user or criminal outside baseball. Rose's large losses to bookies put him in the position where you could question the propriety of his actions whether he was making them to help his bookies or not. Sure, Mark McGwire was a fraud in how he was trying to win, but you didn't question their motives in taking PEDs, even though they were a cheat.

IMO players like McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Clemens, Rodriguez, Palmeiro, Ramirez and any others who have been kept out solely for their PED use deserve to be in before Rose.

Over the course of their careers Williams was probably a better hitter. Bonds was probably better eventually, but we all know the story there.

However, Bonds was lightyears ahead as a baserunner and defensive player.

And they both had prickly personalities.

If Barry had stayed clean, he would have been a HOFer and (probably) all-time great, anyway. The same for Clemens, ARod, and probably Manny Ramirez. They all would not have put up the same level of numbers, but still were A++ talents for their era. So they only have themselves to blame for the blacklist because it wasn't necessary for them to cheat.

The other guys that roid apologists argue about - Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, Sheffield, Gonzalez, and a few others... well, I'll just say, don't make me laugh.
