I know I've shared this story, but back in the '90s, I was living in Chicago and playing with a cover band all over the area (private and corporate parties, weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc.). We got a call to play a wedding reception for former senator Sam Skinner's daughter. While playing the gig, I looked up from my music stand to see Paul Tagliabue staring me in the face. I asked someone what kind of wedding this was, and all I got was that it's a bunch of "NFL people".

Turns out it was Roger Goodell's wedding. Didn't know who he was at the time though. Long before he became commissioner.

RIP.

Loved Troy Aikman's story about Paul Tagliabue during the broadcast the other day:

“One year, I left the Pro Bowl early at halftime,” Troy Aikman said. “Leigh Steinberg, my agent at the time, called me and said, ‘Hey, Paul Tagliabue wants to see you in his office in New York. I said, ‘Just tell me what the fine is. I’m not going to fly all the way to New York just to get a butt-chewing.’ He goes, ‘No, no, no. He wants to talk to you about being a Goodwill Ambassador to the league. I said, ‘Alright. Then I’ll make the trip.

“I was in his office for two hours, Goodwill Ambassador never came out of the conversation. He was a tough guy, too. I had a lot of respect for him.”

Tagliabue was the reason the cardinals ended up in Arizona I believe. From what I understood he did the favor to Bill Bidwill after 2 failed stadium situations in two different cities and shoehorned the Cardinals franchise ahead of Colangelo who wanted to bring an expansion team to Phoenix.

Also, Stormy Bidwill Jr. recently passed away earlier this week in Chicago. I served on a board with his daughter Patti in Chicago.

Yeah I remember hearing about this. I was overseas with the military when the Cardinals moved from St Louis to Phoenix so missed all that drama. Taglibue was so hateful to St Louis when the Rams moved here from LA. Reportedly said "F" St Louis a few times. When the Rams won the superbowl the pained look on his face was evident.

Regardless RIP
