The rules are pretty simple:

According to league policy, NFL players and personnel cannot bet on NFL games, the draft or any league-related activities under any circumstances. They also cannot place any bets while at a team facility or on any team-related travel.

I don't agree with this. Ridley sure, he bet on the NFL. The other's didn't as far as we know.

Two of them did and they just got released.
You are right, I missed the wording on that. 3 bet on NFL games, 2 did not but the betting occurred at the Lions facility.

It does seem weird when the NFL and teams allow players to gamble on airplanes traveling back home.

I wonder if Cards players are prohibited from gambling in the team plane, since it's owned by Mike and thus the NFL.

It seems like a stupid rule regarding gambling on team facilities.

But if you think about it, if it was allowed and you had 70-90 young men together with more money than they ever had it would soon spread and before you know it you have a whole bunch of players with gambling issues.

But then why do you let them gamble on the plane? I have heard stories of players gambling 10s-100s of thousands of dollars.

Can they gamble on the plane? In that case I don't know. Maybe a legal thing? Enforceable in facilities but not during travel?

It goes against the league policy as stated in the article.

Just checked. They can't.

Gambling in the Workplace: NFL Personnel shall not engage in any form of gambling while in any Club or League setting including, without limitation, locker rooms, practice or office facilities, team buses, trains, flights, or hotels, or while traveling on Club or League business. For clarity, playing cards or other casino-type games is permitted as long as nothing of value is wagered.

They might have cracked down on it last year with the Ridley suspension.

That sounds super complicated.

Expecting a Cardinal connection any moment.

They put a team in Vegas.
And they having betting sites plastered all over the NFL. What did the NFL expect would happen? You can’t dangle the carrot in front of the players and not expect them to chase it. I’m sure it is more wide spread than the NFL is leading everyone to believe.

How are they monitoring sports gambling from within the team facility? I feel like that kid from the Lions is getting hosed on this. So he throws a parlay on an NBA game before heading home. Why is that bad at all?

I often see the Lions similar to the Cards. Their years of incompetence of the GM, the bad timing and negative events that keep them in or near the cellar, consistently being near the top of the draft, and their overall record and years of missing the playoffs.

I watched them fairly closely the last 3 years and was happy for them as they seemed to fight so hard each week, and slowly learned how to win. I thought this year would finally be their year. With even a modestly good draft I felt they could take the final step towards success this season. But I forgot one thing. Just like no matter what, we are and always will be the Cardinals. They are and always will be the Lions. Something will always go wrong and derail whatever appearance of success they acquire.

If it isn't one thing, it is another, as the saying goes. How much this little gambling incident might hurt them, time will tell. But since it is the Cards, I mean Lions, something is more than likely to happen that will destroy this promising season for them.

It is hard for me not to feel sorry for the team that in so many ways seems to me like the Cardinals' Siamese twin.
