Still seems like the longest of longshots that Gordon Hayward returns this season. But the fact that he is getting out of the walking boot this week, per Brad Stevens, is incredibly encouraging.

Had a feeling there would be talk of Hayward returning this season. I'd be surprised if he did before the playoffs but if he does come back for the playoffs that will make Boston very dangerous. I don't think they'd start him, at least they shouldn't. Playing a whole season without him it might be too much to throw him into the starting 5 for the playoffs but if he accepted a super 6th man role that would probably be best for the postseason and a return.

Gaining strength back in that ankle/leg is going to take months, and the confidence to trust that ankle will probably take longer. Would be a miracle if he plays in a game this year...let alone full contact practices.

Will be interesting to see how the Celtics try to use Hayward in the playoffs, if he ends up playing. I think he will be ready by the 2nd round, at the latest. Using him as a bench scorer would probably be the best route for them since he didn't really have a chance to get familiar with his teammates or they with him. If they push him into the starting lineup that could create chemistry issues. I don't think he'd be ready to play 30-40 minutes a game yet either. They've managed to win 53 games so far without him this season so they don't really need him but he would be a huge help if they hope to get past the Cavs or the Raptors.

Brad Stevens with jokes tonight. Says Gordon Hayward will be ready for Friday, then that Hayward is still a ways away from returning. https://t.co/TNFtPx3185
